MG finally reveals the New Astor, the new mid-size SUV in India, gets level 2 ADAS

MG revealed the new MG Astor on 15th Sep 21, the new mid-size SUV for the Indian market. Astor is similar to the ZS EV in-terms of design and dimensions but gets 2 petrol engine under the hood. Lets find about the new MG Astor.

MG Astor Exterior:

As we know, it is almost similar to ZS EV, but MG has given some changes like the facelifted ZS which is been sold abroad. Astor gets different styling compared to ZS EV, it gets new "Celestial" grille, new headlights with LED DRLs, new fog lights, slightly revised bumper. 

At the side, Astor gets new 17 inch diamond cut alloy wheel design, blacked out ORVMs, rest all is similar to the ZS EV.

At the rear, Astor gets new rear bumpers with dual exhausts and faux skid plate integrated into the rear bumper.

Astor will get 5 single tone exterior color option i.e. Spiced Orange, Aurora Silver, Glaze Red, Candy White, and Starry Black.

MG Astor Interiors and specs:    

Coming to interiors of the car, Astor gets a 10 inch infotainment system with Jio e-sim for connected car technology, 7 inch digital instrument cluster, Electrically adjustable driver seat, Panoramic sun-roof, leather seats, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, Bluetooth enabled digital key  and much more. 

MG will allow customers to select dashboard color among 3 colors including a dual tone Sangria red, dual tone Iconic Ivory and Tuxedo black. 

Astor will get a personal AI assistant, which will take care of in-car controls, provide news updates, crack jokes and much more.

MG Astor also gets first in-segment ADAS 14 functions like Adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking system, rear driver assist, blind spot detection, forward collision warning, intelligent headlamp control, lane keep assist, speed assist system.

MG Astor Engine and transmissions:

The Astor will be offered only with Petrol powertrain with a Naturally aspirated and one Turbo Petrol engine options, MG will not provide Astor with a Diesel. Two Petrol engine options are, 1.5L Naturally aspirated engine the produces 110bhp and 144Nm of torque and the other engine will be a 1.3L Turbo Petrol engine which will produce 140bhp and 220Nm of torque. Both the engines will be offered with Automatic transmission, 1.5L engine will be offered with a manual and 8-step CVT type Automatic transmission. While the 1.3L Turbo will only make its way with a Automatic transmission option.

MG Astor Pricing and Rivals:  

MG has just revealed the SUV and haven't announced the prices of the car, the launch is set to be October and expected price will start from 10Lakhs ex-showroom. MG Astor will rival the mid size SUVs like the Creta, Seltos, Kushaq, Taigun and Kicks. MG has planned a proper strategy against its rivals and has given great package and safety tech with the new Astor, Well its very early to judge and have to see how its engine perform against the rivals. 

Conclusion:

MG has managed to give a good all rounder this time with the Astor, have to see how the customers will consider this car, it has good features and one of the major highlight is Astor or ZS have secured 5 star rating in ASEAN NCAP, customers who want a safe car will go for it. ADAS is also becoming the trendy between the Car buyers and Astor does that just like the Mahindra XUV 700. One of the major disadvantage Astor has to face is lack of Diesel engine, in this segment only Creta and Seltos offer a Diesel engine and Astor doesn't.
