Tata revealed their new Micro SUV this month and it will compete the existing micro SUVs like the Ignis, KUV100. Tata says it will also compete with the Magnite and Kiger as well. But today we will compare the engine specifications, dimensions, features of the popular Maruti Ignis and upcoming Tata Punch.

The Punch is slightly bigger than the Ignis which will make its stance little bit better than the other. It has bigger boot and fuel tank making it more practical and spacious. Tata has also revealed its breakover figures, approach angle of 20.3 degrees, departure angle of 37.6 degrees, a ramp over angle of 22.2 degrees and a water-wading depth up to 370mm.
Punch and Ignis Engine specifications:
Both the cars get 1.2L Naturally aspirated engine, no Diesel, no Turbo petrol engine on offer. Ignis gets 1 extra cylinder which makes it more refined and smooth than the Punch. Both cars get a option of Automatic transmission with a Manual of course. Both get a 5 speed manual and 5 speed AMT type automatic transmission option.

The Punch is based upon Alfa platform which is shared with the Tata's premium hatchback Altroz. As we know Altroz scored 5 star and we can expect the same scores from the Punch. Tata always cared about safety of their customers and they are well delivering with their Punch.
Maruti Ignis had scored 3 star in the Global NCAP which is acceptable and it is built on Maruti's Heartect A platform.
Conclusion:
Tata has revealed a great all-rounder in the Micro SUV segment and on the other hand Maruti sells Ignis in decent numbers, it hovers 3000-3500 units per month. Have to see how Punch will affect its sales and will it be the best Micro SUV? Lets wait
